“Yeah, I Said It!” Music Review - Britney Spears “Circus”

by

For all you HATERS out there, just STOP! Yeah, I said it. STOP!

Our fair Britney, of the Spears clan, (or is it Klan since they’re from Louisiana?) has released her 6th studio album and is her 2nd album in little over a year (Blackout was released on Oct. 27 2007). And I must say, I LOVES IT! But then again, I loves me some Brit Brit, crazy or not. So much so, I named our Christmas tree ‘Britney Jean’. My boyfriend Chris looks at me like I’m crazy and fought with me on the name, but y’all better recognize its Britney’s Month. Yeah, I said Y’ALL!

I had the privilege of getting my hot little hands on Circus three weeks ago. So to me, Christmas came early. I was giddy as a little school girl (Hit Me Baby One More Time school girl) and have been listening to it ever since. Like I said, I LOVES IT. Let’s get down to the album track list:

1. “Womanizer” – catchy, yet brilliant 1st track to be released. You have to admit, the song is captivating if you like it or not. The video is considered “Toxic” part two, where she plays three different characters. Come on, this makes sense to someone who has been to the Loony Bin a few times. So many characters in her head, so little video air time.

2. “Circus” – All eyes on me, in the center of the ring (Just like a Circus) (Uh. Uh.Uh-huh) When I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip (Just like a Circus). Wow! I’m going to say this is a hugely successful POP song. It has meaning to Brit’s life these past few years, the use of double entendre (of a Circus and her ‘over the top’ kind of life) and grand PROUDUCTION. The production value of this song; albeit, the whole album is SUPURB. IT IS BITCHES!! The video for “Circus” is already out online and is of the Carnival theme with Big Top Tents, Lions, and Freaks. When my friend Chicken saw it he said the funniest thing; he said, “is Christina in the other tent, still looking for her father?” So funny! Yet, so true. Snap!

3. “Out From Under” – Great ballad produced by Guy Sigsworth. An amazing producer who has worked with the likes of Bjork, Mandalay and my FAV Madonna’s “What It Feels Like For A Girl”. (Interjection: “Beautiful” by Mandalay is a beloved song of mine). Delightfully written song. This is Britney’s best ballad since “I’m Not A Girl, Not Just a Woman”. That’s all I’s got’s to say’s about this.

4. “Kill The Lights” – Produced by Danja! This song sounds like it should have been on Blackout. It’s a remarkable dance track that will get your shit moving on the dance floor, or like me, in my kitchen when I’m baking! “Kill The Lights” really is a skillfully produced track by Danja and I can’t wait to hear it in the clubs!!

5. “Shattered Glass” – Another impressive dance track. If Britney’s Management team plays it right, they will release this song with a video and have DJ’s remix it! How many times have you wanted to say to someone who broke up with you:

‘You’re gonna see me in your dreams tonight
My face is gonna haunt you all the time
I promise that you gon’ want me back
When your world falls apart like shattered glass’

6. “If You Seek Amy” – Ok, so this is a Max Martin track – of the “Baby One More Time” fame. He also wrote Kelly Clarkson’s hugely popular “Since You’ve Been Gone”. The song doesn’t make much sense unless you say ‘If You Seek Amy’ really fast. It’s supposed to sound like (F.U.C.K Me). If and only when you do this the lyrics make sense; “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy”. It’s cleaver for a fourth grader. All in all, it’s ok.

7. “Unusual You” – This is where the album takes a turn. The song is a bit darker and ominous. The song starts with a bass and guitar riff and starts thumping around the 23 sec mark. The song has a great beat and moving lyrics. GREAT SONG!

8. “Blur” – As this song starts out, it totes reminds me of “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden. Which in it’s self is exciting. Did Danja mean to do this? If so, he’s BRILLS. Again, this song like “Unusual You” has a different feel then her Bubble Gum Pop. LOVES IT!

9. “Mmm Pap” – Not a FAV at all. I want to say I HATES it. But, I don’t, just not a favorite. I can still work out to it with a skip in my step and my inner self dancing and singing to it. I think I need help!!

10. “Mannequin” – Decent dance track. Also, before the album was released, YouTube clips surfaced of Brit Brit dancing to this song in rehearsal and looking HOT! She really is an astounding dancer. You can find this by clicking on the following:

11. “Lace and Leather” – No comment. I can only say it’s a filler song. It does have a catchy bridge.

12. “My Baby” – Britney, STOP WITH THE BABY REFERENCES! PLEASE KEEP THESE SONGS FOR YOUR CHILDREN. IT WILL FOR SURE PUT THEM TO SLEEP!!!

13. “Radar” – This track was on Blackout and is FABULOUS! I’m glad she re-released this song on Circus. If Brit had her shit together when Blackout was released, “Radar” for sure would have been a hit (as long as there was a video and some promotion behind it). Great song to work out to!

14. “Rock Me In” – Cute Song! There is a lot going on with this track. It reminds me of a late 80’s/Early 90’s track. This is a bonus track.

15. “Phonography” – Definition: The science or practice of transcribing speech by means of symbols representing elements of sound; phonetic transcription. I love, Love, LOVE this song. It’s dark dance music. LOVES IT! It’s sexy as well. I really hope she releases this song with a video. “Phonography” was written by The Clutch (writes for User, Mary J, and for Miss Whitney Houston’s new album) and produced by Bloodshy & Avant. Its probs my FAVORITE song on the album. Listen to it!!!

16. “Amnesia” – Not much to write about. Bonus Track. Reminds me of a 50’s song. It’s kind of cute.

17. “Quicksand” - European iTunes bonus track written by Lady GaGa. Not my favorite track. It’s cute.

18. “Rock Boy” – German bonus track. Another Rock themed track. It’s ok. It’s actually not that bad. It’s catchy and as I write this review and listen to the song, I really like it.

19. “Trouble” – Another track written by The Clutch and produced by Bloodshy & Avant. Another impressive dance track that could do extremely well in the clubs. A charismatic song if you can get your hands on it.

So, that’s my review Bitches! I ABSOLUTELY love this album and love me some Britney! And everyone has their opinions on Brit Brit, but give the album a listen with an open mind. I think you’ll enjoy it. And I know there are some peeps out there who take MUSIC WAY TO SERIOUSLY….Don’t. It’s Pop music. Have fun! Yeah, I said IT!
