Whack Job Tom Cruise Gets His Own Studio!
Hollywood crack pot Tom Cruise and MGM Studios are resurrecting United Artists, the movie studio founded more than 80 years ago by screen legends including Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. Tom Cruise will star in and produce films for the studio, and his production partner Paula Wagner will serve as chief executive. The pair will set the company’s production slate from development to production green lighting ability.
This news will most likely send shock waves through Hollywood as Cruise was recently booted from Paramount, the studio that he was signed with for almost a couple of decades. While with Paramount, Cruise put out hit after hit generating over 2 billion dollars in ticket sales in the past decade alone! This past summer, when his personal life became too much for the huge studio, he was let go from his contract.
Today’s United Artist announcement came out just a day after the head of Paramount repeated his reasoning for letting Cruise go. Stating, “his recent conduct has not been acceptable”. This of course refers to Cruise’s opinions on use of anti-depressants, the famous Oprah appearance, his heated interview with The Today Shows Matt Lauer, his links to Scientology and of course his relationship with Katie Holmes. Paramount claims that Cruise’s actions last year made the studio lose a significant amount of money off of the lame duck “Mission Impossible 3″.
At this point we will have to wait and see if Americans are ready to forgive crazy Cruise. I don’t think that his career is over, but he may find it hard to sell as many tickets as he used to. Tom Cruise has one of the best film careers of any actor, and he is the most profitable and successful actor in movie history. I am looking forward to seeing how this drama plays out, thats for sure!
