This weekend Mel Gibson defied convention and grabbed the #1 spot with his bizarre movie “Apocalypto”. The movie didn’t do big numbers but was a surprise debut. The box office is suffering with lower returns this holiday than last year. People are just not going to the movies as much as they used to anymore. It looks like people have also forgiven Mel for his racial tirade, that sucks! I was hoping we would see an outcry from people and this movie would have bombed.
The chick flick “The Holiday” grabbed the #2 spot, with no other female driven movies until Dreamgirl’s, this movie may be a mild hit when the snow settles. “Happy Feet” took a dive finally and looks like it will end with at least a $150 million domestic take. Next week we get more big movies like “Charlotte’s Web” and soon after that the HUGELY anticipated “Dreamgirl’s” (I cannot wait!).
