EMILE HIRSCH PLAYS “SPEED RACER” IN THE 2008 FILM

“Speed Racer” is the highly anticipated 2008 family film that is a live action film adaptation of the popular 1960s Japanese animated series of the same name. The film is directed by the Wachowski brothers who haven’t directed a film since “Matrix: Revolutions”. Emile Hirsch stars as “Speed Racer” and Christina Ricci as Speed’s girlfriend, “Trixie”. Susan Sarandon and John Goodman portray Speed’s parents and Matthew Fox will be playing “Racer X”. Speed Racer has a release date set for May 9, 2008.

The trailer below is a mind boggling eye popping feast of Hollywood magic. Who else but the Wachowski brothers could bring this fresh idea to the screen with such imagination and style. By the look of this trailer this film will be a one of a kind experiment. I am so glad that they chose a real monkey instead of a CGI creation for the lovable chimp “Chim Chim”. The costumes and art direction look just like the cartoon we all loved so much growing up.

In October 2006, directors Larry and Andy Wachowski were brought on board by the studio to write and direct Speed Racer. Producer Joel Silver, who had collaborated with the Wachowski brothers for “V for Vendetta” and “The Matrix Trilogy”, explained that the brothers were hoping to reach a broader audience with a film that was not R-rated. With all of the drama that has surrounded this film and with the huge amount of talent involved, this film should be a HUGE success.

The article listed 18 summer blockbusters from the past that did not disappoint in terms of entertainment. A subsequent list discussed the potential ruin brought by the blockbuster class of 2008 including the Indiana Jones movie and Speed Racer. [...]
