Ruth Brown Passes Away

It is true folks, Motormouth Maybelle died this weekend. If you haven’t seen John Waters 1988 classic movie “Hairspray” then you are missing out. “Hairspray” was eventually made into a Broadway musical, which was a huge smash. It went on to earn buckets of money and earn a handful of Tony’s.

Motormouth Maybelle Is Sadly Gone

As you may know now the stage play is being made into a big screen movie coming out Christmas 2007. In that version Queen Latifah will play Motormouth. I loved Ruth Brown’s turn as Maybelle, it is one of the stand out roles in the perfect campy comedy. Ruth Brown was also an amazing vocalist, a funny on screen talent and she even had a big soul music career. Motormouth Maybelle will be missed!
