Music Review - Morrissey “Ringleader Of The Tormentors”
GRADE: A+
Just in case Morrissey comes on tour, I decided to post an old review of Morrissey’s latest c.d. that came out this past spring. It is a great album and worth the look back. Especially if we see this c.d. performed live.
I could never give Morrissey a bad review, who am I kidding. Did this album grab me like his last “comeback” c.d. did? Not really. But I do love the classic Smiths feel, and tone of this new music. I love the children’s choir that accompanies him on a slew of these new songs. Morrissey’s voice is still smooth and odd enough to captivate. His age is defining his vocal range and style in a very handsome fashion. He looks great too!
I did notice that Moz is up to his old writing tricks with titles such as, “The Youngest Was The Most Loved”, “I Just Want To See The Boy Happy” and “You Have Killed Me”. The lyrics are darker, more depressing and tell more of the singers woes in his witty signature style. The arrangements are guitar driven and deeper in expressing emotion than “You Are The Quarry” and that is always fun to hear from the “King Of Mope”. His best tune on “Ringleader” is definately “To Me You Are, A Piece Of Art” a rare Moz love song.
“I’ll Never Be Anybodies Hero Now” has a great piano arrangement and lyric….that is classic Moz. I could go on and pick all the moments of genius, but once again I can’t come up with one bad thing to say…this is my idol…and he never disappoints.
