Legendary Film Director Robert Altman Dies
I am a fan of Robert Altman’s movies but his more recent films haven’t been the best of his career, to say the least. I loathed “A Prairie Home Companion”, “Ready To Wear” & “The Company”.
He has been nominated for numerous writing and directing Academy Awards, but never won on. He did recieve the honorary Oscar last year though. His best work is by far “The Player” followed by “Gosford Park”. One of my other favorites is the mega-flop “Popeye” from 1980. To me “Popeye” was imaginative and the first movie to try and adapt a cartoon to the big screen with an adult feeling to it. I watched it numerous times as a child.
I like “Nashville” and “M.A.S.H.” but it may be a generational thing as to why I don’t gush over these two films like most critics do. “Short Cuts” was fun, but not very memorable.
Robert Altman will most likely be remembered for his distinct style of film making with his broad huge cast’s and his attention to the details. His work will be missed throughout Hollywood for years to come. I am sure he will get a rousing memorial with a sweet montage at this years Oscar ceremony.
