Ethnic Babies Are The New Chihuahua!
I am of course referring to Madonna’s recent adoption of a Malawain baby. CNN, E! News and my local news channel are all buzzing about the news. Every crawl on TV contains some view on the incident. In situations like this the line between reality and celebrity become blurred. What is with the sudden flux of famous adoptions? Is this a fad in Hollywood like small dogs and expensive handbags?
Angelina started the trend, and Madonna is her good friend, so I can only assume the move was inspired by Jolie. I am not saying Madonna’s efforts are not genuine, but this whole trend is just creepy.
For one thing, why is it so hard for people to adopt American babies? I mean, if Madonna and Brangelina are reluctant to adopt due to the impossible guidelines and adoption laws in the USA, how can any other normal person? Why is it so hard for couples, singles and even gays to adopt children from abusive, neglected and abandoned homes? And why is it so easy to adopt children in impoverished countries?
The whole system of adoption is just sad. And when a celebrity like Madonna brings the issue to light it becomes a bit trivialized. Her intentions are clear. She wants another child, she love to be a mom, we get it. I doubt this is a publicity stunt, if she wants to do that she would hump a crucifix. But when are these stars going to help bring adoption issues to the public and help change the system by using their high profiles to reform the system?
It seems like adopting a foreign baby is easier and made easier. When money and celebrity are involved, it is hard NOT to think about the issue of selling/trading babies. Where is the line drawn and why are celebrities not asking these questions?

Personally, I love this trend. There are SO many orphaned kids in this world who need a
home. Hell, if it were up to me, the whole 1st world would have a 1-year
moratorium on breeding so more of these kids could get adopted. Anyway,
celebs are always trendsetters, and I’m stoked to see them setting such a
positive global-citizenship-concious trend for once!
