DVD Review - “Crank”
GRADE: C-
I love Jason Stathum, he is one of the hottest action stars going right now. But once again he put out a Steven Segal level action flick with silly dialog an unbelievable action sequences. It is funny that this movie is called “Crank” the character runs around like he is pumped up with crystal meth. But it is not as fun and exciting as you may think it looks. This is a run of the mill action movie with little thrills.
The premise is like that of the movie “Speed”, but with a human instead of a bus. Stathum’s character has a small amount of time to find the person that injected a Chinese drug in him that will cause his death if he doesn’t keep his heart rate high. So of course the action keeps coming, but it is nothing new, we have seen it all before. This movie is too frantic and all over the place. One minute it is an action thriller, the next it is a slapstick comedy.
I do have to admit I like the last portion of this movie because Stathum is half naked through out it. This would be the only redeeming quality of this movie. Amy Smart is wasted in this movie as Jason’s girlfriend. The scene where the couple have sex in public is pretty lame, but kind of sexy. Still this scene hardly makes this a great film. This is the kind of movie you rent for the mindless butch types in your life (god bless them). Otherwise I would skip it all together.

I personally enjoyed this movie. It wasn’t an incredible ‘A’ction movie. However when I watched the movie it was exactly what I was looking for….A no-nonsense, non-stop, kick some ass action movie.
I guess Walter(who I saw the movie with) and I are the mindless butch types in your life.
