DVD Review - “Accepted”
GRADE: D+
Well, I found another movie to make my worst films of 2006 list. I didn’t expect much from “Accepted”, the trailers were just o.k. but the casting of Lewis Black caught my eye. Black should be ashamed of “Accepted” it is a seriously bad comedy.
The main actor, who you might recognize from those Apple commercials or “Jeepers Creepers” Justin Long, is not believable as a high school student. His stereotypical group of outcasts are just filler for the preposterous plot. None of these people would hang together in a real high school. The whole cast comes off as comedic amateurs.
The premise is way too outlandish. A group of high school losers plan to create a fake college since they were not accepted by any colleges. With pressure with from their parents mounting they use their parents money supposed to be for tuition to open and run a fake college. What is really annoying about this plot is that i sis completely unbelievable! I love movie magic, but this idea is dead in the water. I found myself saying, “Oh come on, that’s just silly” many times!
I love a great slapstick over the top nerd comedy like “Revenge Of The Nerds”, “Lucas” or even “Mean Girls” but I just got frustrated and irritated by this movie. There are too many implausible moments for me to recommend this movie. Despite the fact that the laughs come at a slow pace, this movie grated on my nerves.
The acting and the writing are so terrible this movie should have been direct to video like that new “America Pie” movie (which also looks rotten as hell!). Just walk past this at the video store, I rented it because I have seen almost everything and I wish I would have just gone to bed early that night.
