Fergie "The Dutchess"

Did we really need a solo Fergie c.d.? Are “The Black Eyed Peas” so good, it warrants this “spin off” effort by Miss Stacey Ferguson? The answer…not really! And when did calling yourself “Fergie” which is associated with a failed British royal who does Weight Watchers commercials, cool? I have always thought Fergie was a “buttaface”, everything is cute “but the face”. The only cool thing about her is that she is a recovering speed addict. She smoked crystal for 3 years before hitting it big, and then went clean. Good job, that must have been hard!

Fergie’s voice confuses me. One minute we get a really soulful, Chrisitina Aguillera like voice. The other we get an almost Britney baby gibberish sounding Fergie, which borderline copies Gwen’s “No Doubt” alter-ego. All of these inflections in her voice and her apparent need to show off her range make this c.d. a hit and miss project.

“London Bridges” is a scatter shot pop song. It doesn’t know what it wants to be. A rip-off of Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” or of Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous”. It is really catchy, but uninspired. I enjoyed “Voodoo Doll”, it is the one radio friendly single I enjoyed. “Wake Up” is a mess. It sounds like a single right out of Kelly Clarkson’s last c.d., a total “since You Been Gone” rip off. It wreaks of the producer Linda Perry or as if it she asked Pink for tips. “Clumsy” is a fun pop song, one of the pure original Fergie songs you can pick out on this c.d. Lastly, the ballad “Finally” is an copy of ANY Christina Aguillera feel good about yourself slow song. It is schmaltzy and cheesy, I am sure we will hear it on the radio or before some romantic comedy in the near future.

This is a cookie cutter production for a tired pop star. She has the energy and talent to be in pop music, but she should put her energies into her band “The Black Eyed Peas”. I feel like the market is over saturated with soulful singing girls who want to be diva’s. Beyonce, Fergie, Gwen they all want to be bigger than what they started out as. Which is fine, but they need the talent to sustain the public interest. This c.d. will be a hit, but will be forgettable.

    i know fergie..she is a good friend of mine & she works her butt off to produce this music…she doesnt want to be a dive she just wants to make her fans proud, she loves making music…is that so bad?? she hasnt split with the bep by the way…they have lots of stuff planned for 2009 but i cnt reveal =)
