Ice Cube to Play Mr. T Character in John Singleton’s “A-Team” Movie

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

a-team.jpg

Now that John Singleton has officially been signed on to direct the big screen adaptation of the “A-Team” movie there are rumors buzzing online on who will play the team mechanic named “B.A. Baracus” (who was played by 80’s icon Mr. T).

Ice Cube is rumored to be contemplating playing the role. Variety Magazine reports Cube is under consideration for the part. Blackfilm.com took the opportunity to ask him about “A-Team” during a press junket in support of his latest film with Katt Williams and Tracy Morgan, “First Sunday”.

ice.jpg

Asked if he’d consider playing Baracus, Cube responded:

“Hell yeah, especially with John Singleton directing,” going on to say that as a fan of the show, the role would be “not a dream come true, but…definitely a good thing to do.”

He then went on to to say:

“I wouldn’t try to duplicate what Mr. T did, but I will have the same impact on you when you were little watching the TV show. I’m going to bring my own flavor to it and I am going to do the mohawk”.

All of this news is heaven for 80’s nostalgia fans and fans of the popular 80’s action show. I personally think that Ice Cube may not be tough enough to play the role. As long as Singleton is involved this movie has a chance in my opinion.

Britney Spear Taken To The Hospital After 3 Hour Showdown!

Friday, January 4th, 2008

brit.jpg

ARTICLE BELOW TAKEN FROM BREITBART.COM

Britney Spears entered a new chapter in her troubled life surrounded by paparazzi and police wanting to know more about a three-hour showdown involving her two young sons. The 26-year-old pop star was taken by ambulance from her home late Thursday after police were called to help end the standoff.

“For her own welfare, she was transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment,” Officer April Harding said early Friday, declining to elaborate. No injuries were reported. “Entertainment Tonight” reported on its Web site that Spears was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Cedars spokeswoman Simi Singer said she could neither confirm nor deny the report, citing patient confidentiality laws.

Tara Scott, representing Spears, and Mark Vincent Kaplan, representing Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline, spent about 30 minutes in chambers Friday with Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, who has been handling their custody dispute. They made no comments to reporters.

Spears was conscious late Thursday when paramedics took her out of her home in a gurney and loaded her into an ambulance that left her house escorted by a row of police cars. She appeared to arriving officers to be under the influence of an unknown substance, Officer Jason Lee told City News Service.

A horde of paparazzi chased the ambulance as it left the neighborhood, their strobes going off as they held up their cameras to the vehicle’s rear window. Another group of videographers met the ambulance at the hospital, banging on the ambulance doors.

Officers were called to Spears’ house around 8 p.m. to respond to the custody dispute over her sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Harding said. By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a firetruck had entered the gated-community that includes Spears’ house. Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night. Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Lee said.

The singer and Federline have been involved in a long and very public custody battle. Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The couple were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

During the past year, Spears has been photographed without underwear, and has appeared to be drunk and out of control. She shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella, spent a month in rehab and has had a handful of fender benders, including one in which she ran over a photographer’s foot.

britney2retna0401_468×340.jpg

Earlier Thursday, Spears appeared for a deposition in her custody dispute. Spears was deposed for just 14 minutes, Kaplan told reporters after Spears left. She called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn’t show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said.

Spears’ attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope on Wednesday filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a “breakdown” in communication with their client. Kaplan said Spears’ attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session, which had been scheduled to last two hours.

Keanu Reeves Stars In Re-Make Of the 1951 Classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still”

keanu.jpg

Recent Golden Globe nominee Jon Hamm of “Mad Men” will star opposite Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly in the sci-fi remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” for Fox, says The Hollywood Reporter.Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) will direct the update of Robert Wise’s 1951 classic from a screenplay by David Scarpa.

Hamm will play Dr. Granier, a NASA official who recruits Helen (Connelly) for the scientific team investigating an alien’s arrival on Earth. Reeves plays Klaatu, the alien who has a simple message: “Live in peace or be destroyed”. the original is a cheesy but poignant film, this should either be chilling or another crappy re-make

“Where the Wild Things Are” is the big screen adaptation of the classic Maurice Sendak picture book of the same name. The film will be directed by Spike Jonze who made the creative “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation”. The film was originally set for release from Universal, and a teaser of the film was attached to the dismal “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. However, disagreements with Jonze led him to take the film to Warner Bros.

The cast includes Catherine Keener, James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, Catherine O’Hara, Lauren Ambrose. The seven main creatures from the story will be played by actors in up to 275 centimetres tall suits made of foam, although it is expected that their faces will be computer-generated. John Singleton In Talks To Direct An “A-Team” Feature Film!?

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

ateam.jpg

According to IESB.net and RottenTomatoes.com, 20th Century Fox has set its sights on John Singleton to direct the big-screen adaptation of the popular NBC series “The A-Team”. I personally loved the comedic aspect of this 1 hour primtetime action drama as little kid and I even watched the animated Mr. T televison series on Saturday mornings.

The original “A-Team”, which ran for five seasons in the ’80s, centered on a group of Vietnam vets who ran around doing good deeds while on the run for “a crime they didn’t commit” a premise the film will update by making the team’s members veterans of the Gulf War.

johnsingleton.jpg
DIRECTOR JOHN SINGLETON

The A-Team movie has been in production for years at one point, it was said to be on target for a 2002 release, and the studio was rumored to be pursuing Ving Rhames, Jim Carrey, Christian Bale, and Mel Gibson to round out the cast.

If Singleton really does wind up signing onto the project, it could signal that Fox has decided to make the adaptation more of a straight-ahead action film, rather than an update on the series’ over-the-top action comedy.

The New “Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” Movie Poster!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

This is looking to be one of the most anticipated films of the summer of 2008. The poster art work is right in line with the feel and vibe of the classic “Indiana Jones” trilogy.

Anyone who doubted if Harrison Ford could pull off another “Indy” role at his age or not should relax, by the looks of things Steven Spielberg and company have things right on track! Yay!

“Freakonomics” The Movie Coming To Theaters!

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

freakonomics2.jpg

“Freakonomics” is the bestselling book by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner which to this date has already sold more than 3 million copies. At first when I heard of a movie based on this non-fiction book I scratched my head in disbelief. The book is, after all, about using statistics to prove or disprove a number of social theories.

“Freakonomics” uses economic theories to analyze issues ranging from claims that teachers and sumo wrestlers cheat, that swimming pools are more dangerous to children than guns and that the drop in crime can be attributed to Roe v. Wade. This is ripe material for a searing documentary. I am a huge fan of all kinds of different documentaries so this news is right up my alley.

freakonomics.jpg

Producers Chad Troutwine and Seth Gordon have lined up a list of highly regarded documentarians, including Morgan Spurlock (”Super Size Me”), Alex Gibney (”Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room”), and Eugene Jarecki (”Why We Fight”), to film 15-minute segments covering chapters from the book. Filming is scheduled to begin in January and end by summer.

George Clooney & Brad Pitt Spoof Senator Larry Craig At Award Ceremony For Julia Roberts!

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

actressju_steve_14965704_600.jpg

George Clooney and pal Brad Pitt taped a congratulatory message to “Ocean’s 12″ co-star Julia Roberts at The American Cinematheque’s Tribute Awards last night that was absolutely hilarious. In a funny turn of events, last year Julia Roberts presented this same award to Clooney.

Clooney’s videotaped congrats consisted of him talking to Roberts while hiding in a toilet stall, then a hand reaches under the stall and a foot from the stall next to him starts tapping for toilet paper (or something else), he gets up to discover it is Brad Pitt in the stall next to him. Check out the video below:

“The Dark Knight” Movie Poster Is Pretty Neat

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

postersmall1__opt.jpg

“The Dark Knight” is the sequel to the 2005 release “Batman Begins”, which rebooted the Batman franchise after an eight-year hiatus. Christopher Nolan, director of “Batman Begins”, continues as the director of the sequel, which stars Christian Bale again as Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker. The new “Batman” is less cartoon-ish and more serious than the Tim Burton and Joel Shcumacher versions.

2008’s “The Dark Knight” introduces a new version of the Joker, based on the villain’s original appearances in comic book lore. The character Batman also becomes more of a detective, dealing with the escalated situation from the end of Batman Begins as well as the dilemma of his vigilante crusade. All of these new elements are sure to make this movie a huge blockbuster.

Christian Bale To Play John Connor In “Terminator 4″ Directed By McG

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

terminator.jpg

Variety magazine reports that Christian Bale will play John Connor in the newest installment of the “Terminator” movie franchise. Bale will play Connor, now in his 30’s, as he leads what is left of the human race against the machines. The good news for sci-fi geeks and fans is that this movie will be set in the future. McG is directing the project which has an April start date in Budapest.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed rumors that Christian Bale is in negotiations to star in “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins”. McG (”Charlie’s Angels” and “We Are Marshall”) is directing the movie, which is being made by Halcyon Company and Intermedia, and will be distributed by Warner Bros.

DIRECTOR McG

Christian Bale stars in next summer’s highly-anticipated Batman Begins sequel, “The Dark Knight”. If things go as planned, the actor will be headlining two major pictures for the studio “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” and the new Batman movie. The Producers of “T4″ intend the project to be the first in a trilogy reinventing the franchise.

I loved all of the “Terminator” movies and am excited for this January’s “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” on FOX. I remember watching “T2″ and hoping we would see sequels that show the rise of Connor and the end of the machines. If executed right, this movie franchise could spawn a new generation of fans.

Robert Zemeckis Directing An All CGI “A Christmas Carol” Movie w/ Jim Carrey

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

carey_j_l.jpg
url.jpg

Disney has chosen November 6, 2009 as the release date for a new adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic holiday tale “A Christmas Carol”. A few big stars have recently joined director/writer/producer Robert Zemeckis’ (”Forrest Gump”, “Polar Express”, “Back to the Future”, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Cast Away”, “Beowulf”) next film.

“A Christmas Carol” will be the third performance capture/Disney digital 3-D animated film Zemeckis has done. Carrey will play the mieser Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present AND the Ghost of Christmas Future. This should be wacky, to say the least.

polarsmall.jpgbeo.jpg

Robert Zemeckis revealed in a podcast on the official “Beowulf” site that Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth and Gary Oldman have joined Jim Carrey in “A Christmas Carol”. Online source Comingsoon.net reports that Robin Wright Penn announced she is also in “A Christmas Carol” on her podcast online as well.

There are rumors circling the net that Tom Hanks, Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox may also join the cast. If the movie is as fresh and fun as the cast this could be a serious hit. Carey is in a career slump and sure could use one after the abysmal “The Number 23″.

Frank Darabont And Stephen King Team Up For Film Version Of “The Long Walk”

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

long.jpg

Frank Darabont writer/director of “The Shawshank Redemption”, “The Green Mile” and “The Mist” has plans for another Stephen King big screen adaptation. This one, written under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, is the sci-fi tale “The Long Walk”. The story tells of a futuristic foot race where competitors are shot when they stop walking. The last man walking wins. A movie constantly on the go is the next hurdle Darabont faces. (Below are quotes taken from Variety magazine):

frank-d.jpg
DIRECTOR/WRITER FRANK DARABONT

“Certainly you can’t get too handheld with it because then you’d have an image bouncing for the length of a feature film,” said Darabont. “I think there’s got to be some stabilizing gizmos that I can use to get some of that coverage but I’m already thinking about that.”

Darabont distinguished between his styles for The Mist and his previous films. Where he spent time carefully planning on “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile”, he took a fast and furious approach to “The Mist”. That style would also be appropriate for “The Long Walk”.

“That would also be, I think, probably the more ragged and loose and documentary kind of feel. It would probably be an even lower budget than this one was.”

mist.jpgsr.jpggm.jpg

With “Fahrenheit 451″ set to be Darabont’s next project, “The Long Walk” could still be a long way off. “That right now is still in the future. That’s on one of the back burners for now. It probably won’t be too long but before I do that, I’m hoping to get “Fahrenheit 451″ rolling next year.”

I for one am a HUGE Darabont and King fan. I love all three of their big screen collaborations so far. “The Mist” has had a haunting effect on me since I saw it over 2 weeks ago. That films horrific imagery and profound message have had a staggering effect on my sensibilities, it was that intense. I know many people that would say that “Shawshank” left an emotional imprint on them after viewing it as well. As for the “The Green Mile”, it was a beautiful film, but it didn’t pack the same punch of “The Mist” or “Shawshank”.

stephen-king-2max.jpg
HORROR AUTHOR STEPHEN KING

Any way you look at all this exciting news fans have something to cheer about. The book “The Long Walk” is a hard read, and I couldn’t get through it completely. But I can say that the plot is riveting and the film should be another triumph if Darabont uses the same techniques that made his last 3 films such critical successes.

News of Darabont’s “Fahrenheit 451″ (written by Ray Bradbury) movie is also very exciting for sci-fi fans everywhere as well. Darabont’s reputation for great movie adaptations has been impeccable so far, which should mean that “Fareinheit” and “The Long Walk” won’t be any different in style and execution.

New “Iron Man”, “The Dark Knight”, & “Indiana Jones 4″ Pics!

Friday, November 30th, 2007

jokerbig.jpg

All three of these films are sure to be huge hits in 2008, I for one am very excited to see all three of these movies. Heath Ledger is shaping up to be a great Joker. He has the look of the character down. The pic of “Iron Man” below is obviously not Robert Downey Jr., but the star will be playing the role of the superhero in the comic book blockbuster next summer.

iron_man_4.jpg

Lastly, I am excited to see that Harrison Ford doesn’t look completely geriatric in this pic with him and Shia Labouf in next years highly anticipated “Indy” movie. The next “Indiana Jones” film already looks like it will break box office records and turn a new generation onto the franchise. Enjoy the pics from these three films below!
