A Date With John Waters
John Waters is my favorite director of all time. “Hairspray” opened my eyes to campy cinema, and got me in touch with my inner gay self at age 13. So when I heard he was making a special appearance at the local San Francisco Amoeba Records, I knew I had to show up. I gathered up my favorite Water’s memorabilia; a “Hairspray” vinyl record cover, a c.d. cover of the “Hairspray” soundtrack and a DVD cover of “A Dirty Shame” for him to sign.
The night was billed as “A Date With John Waters” as he is currently promoting his cheesy, sweet collection of campy songs by the same name. I love Water’s taste of rare 50’s and 60’s tunes, they each are unique in their own way. “If I Knew You Were Coming I Would Have Baked You A Cake” and “Aint Got A Home” are the best rare finds on the whole disc. There are tons more oddities and small gems on this disc than any other collection of rarities that will come out this year.
Below are pictures of my date with John Water’s with my boyfriend Rich and I (he is the hot one in the hat with John also). I was so nervous when I sat down next to him to have my things signed I was shaking. I wasn’t this nervous when we met Dave Grohl and The Flaming Lips, I was trembling! I of course told him that I have been a huge fan since I came out in my early teens and had him sign various items for my fag hags (yes, they like to be called that). This was a dream come true to say the least.
