The “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” Red-Band Movie Trailer Is Hilarious

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is an upcoming comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith has released little information about this film, except that it is a comedy about two lifelong platonic friends who have managed to trudge into adulthood with a satisfying lack of accomplishment. However, a high school reunion and dire rent problems spark the novel moneymaking idea of pulling together an amateur porn enterprise with their friends. As the film begins shooting, however, Zack and Miri realize their feelings for each other might be more than just that of friends.

I am a huge fan of Kevin Smith films. “Clerks 2″ was a surprise hit a couple of years ago and my favorite film of his is “Chasing Amy” with “Mallrats” coming in a close second. Judd Apatow has a lot to thank Smith for; their brand of humor is very similar. The pairing of Smith with Seth Rogan is also pretty inspired; it’s as if Kevin Smith has found his muse in Rogan! And any film with the magnetic energy of Elizabeth Banks in it must be worth watching. If anything the title of this film is genius marketing.

“Ghostbusters 3″ in the Works!

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Below is the official word on the rumored “Ghostbusters 3″ film that has been trying to get off the ground in Hollywood for years. Names like Judd Apatow, Ben Stiller and Seth Rogan have been rumored as possible new comers to the project with the original cast returning from the first two films (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis & Ernie Hudson).

Any way you look at it this is great news for movie fans from the 80’s that have been waiting for this announcement. The first two “Ghostbuster” films bring up such great summertime memories. I hope this film lives up to the expectations fans have. No one wants another soggy sequel like “Indiana Jones 4″.

Columbia Pictures is getting serious about scaring up a new installment of its huge blockbuster “Ghostbusters” franchise.

The studio has set “The Office” co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

Studio would not comment on the development and has been mum on recent rumors that there was interest in making another installment of the franchise.

The scribes just wrote “Year One,” a comedy that was directed by Ramis. Ramis with Aykroyd wrote the first two installments of the films. Ivan Reitman directed both the 1984 original and the sequel that was released in 1989. The close proximity between the writers and original Ghostbuster Ramis is evidence that the ghost chasers have sparked to the idea of returning.

“Ghostbusters” was Columbia’s highest grossing film ever, until it was beaten by “Men in Black” and then “Spider-Man.” An attempt to make a third installment of the franchise was stymied in the dealmaking stage. Sources said so much gross was pledged to the participants that it was next to impossible for the studio to make any money on a third installment.

No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready, but the gross percentage will certainly be an issue. Sony has a standing policy not to allow more than 25% of first dollar gross out the door.

The scribes, who are Emmy- nominated for their work on “The Office,” just set up another picture at Columbia, selling their spec script “Bad Teacher” to the studio for Jimmy Miller to produce.

The “Milk” Movie Trailer w/ Sean Penn is Moving & Brilliant

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

“Milk” is a 2008 biopic about the later life and assassination of San Francisco city supervisor/gay rights activist Harvey Milk (played by Sean Penn). The film is directed by Gus Van Sant who made “Good Will Hunting.” The film is one of two films about Harvey Milk. The other, an adaptation by Bryan Singer, The Mayor of Castro Street, was suspended due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Even though this movie screams of Oscar bait I think it will have an emotional effect on people and maybe this election season will be more emotionally charged. This film and Oliver Stone’s “W.” bio-pic of George W. Bush are sure to piss off a few Republican talking heads but who cares? These stories need to be told and who else better to tell them? The New Lily Allen Single “Guess Who Batman (F**k You Very Much)” Is Sassy & Hot!

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I loved Lily Allen’s debut 2007 CD “Alright Still” so this follow up single to that world wide smash is eagerly anticipated. I am a huge fan despite all of her tabloid drama. I have seen her perform live and even though she was a mess I loved every bit of her raunchy and witty pop music. The YouTube streaming single below is point in case, Lily Allen doesn’t give a shit about her critics and it works!

Alphabeat’s “Boyfriend” Music Video Will Charm You

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Alphabeat’s fresh brand of pop rock has been a huge hit across the pond in 2008 but so far I haven’t heard them make a blip on the scene over here in the states. Their self titled freshman album is already an instant pop classic in my opinion and is one of 2008’s great little known finds. Watch both versions of Alphabeat’s new single “Boyfriend” below and spread the word!

The “Ghost Town” Movie Trailer With Ricky Gervais

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

The Wikipedia plot of “Ghost Town” is as follows:

A misanthropic dentist (Ricky Gervais) gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after a near death experience in which he dies for seven minutes during a colonoscopy and is then miraculously revived. Ghosts begin to pester him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni), putting him in the middle of a supernatural love triangle.

The trailer below has one sure fire thing going for it and that is Ricky Gervais’ dry wit and sublime comic timing. If this film can come close to the brilliance of his TV work like “Extras” and “The Office” then this film could be a sleeper hit.

Hopefully the Capra-esque feeling of this film won’t come off too sweet. I’m actually hoping that this movie will be successful and down right fun. Greg Kinnear looks very dashing and he is always a treat in these types of comedies, so let’s hope we will be gushing about “Ghost Town” this fall. Watch the movie trailer below:

Movie Review - “Hamlet 2″

Monday, September 1st, 2008

**** STARS

Have you ever seen a movie that was so funny that you embarrassed yourself because you were laughing so uncontrollably loud and hard? This was the experience I had while watching the absolutely genius and over the top comedy “Hamlet 2″. This summer could easily go down as a history making season for adult comedies (”Pineapple Express”, “Tropic Thunder”, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), but somehow “Hamlet 2″ pushes the boundaries of taste and humor without offending and rehashing old gags making it the best of the lot.

Steve Coogan is nothing less than brilliant as the main character Dana Marschz (his last name is the source of one of the film’s best jokes) who after a failed acting career has turned to inspiring high school students in drama class. The first 10 minutes of this film had me slapping my knee, covering my mouth and choking on soda all at once. The jokes in “Hamlet 2″ come at you at a rapid pace giving you no time to breathe. All of this comedy magic lies on Steve Coogan’s shoulders, his timing and physical humor are unlike any other big screen goof ball out there.

This film also has a great cast of supporting young actors and a marvelously smart screenplay by Andrew Flemming (”Dick”, “The Craft”, and “Threesome”) that is like a fresh breath of air. Amy Poehler and Catherine Keener also give gut busting performances that are insanely funny. Even though this movie is silly and shocking in places it still remains sweet and you walk out of the theater satisfied and wanting to see more. The music numbers alone stay imbedded in your brain days later, I am still singing “Rock Me Sexy Jesus” or “Rape My Face” as I clean house and do chores.

“Hamlet 2″ is the perfect movie going experience that could lift anyone out of the obvious summer movie doldrums and it beats most of the cookie cutter blockbusters at the multiplex out there now. This movie is a rare treat and the definition of the ultimate comic gem. I definitely suggest a big group of you and your closest friends make a field trip just to see Elizabeth Shue’s performance alone! This film will most likely become a cult classic and one of those films I personally will want to watch over and over.
